Wrestle with the Giants – King Salmon on the Spey
Trophy Catch & Release King Salmon
The ultimate freshwater salmon trip. The Alaskan Wild King Salmon. Bristol Bay has some of the last remaining true, wild King Salmon that have been untouched by man. On top of that, Togiak River Lodge is the only Lodge on the entire Togiak River system. This gives us exclusive access to these amazing giants. We consider the dates for our “Wrestle with the Giants” season to be the best time frame to specifically target King Salmon.
They are fresh out of the salt and ready to be wrestled with. Within this season we have two time frames specifically dedicated to anglers who want to target these King Salmon on Spey and fly rods. During our spey/fly rotations, we only take a total of 12 anglers at the lodge. This gives our anglers the opportunity to spread out and fish exclusive stretches of water. With only fourteen spey fisherman at the lodge, each angler technically has almost 1.5 miles of river to themselves. In effort to promote conservation for King Salmon, all adults over 20 inches are catch and release only. For those who would like to take fish home, the lodge will provide 25 pounds of commercially harvested Salmon from Togiak Bay.
For more information on techniques and gear used to target Togiak King Salmon Check out the King Salmon Info Page.

The perfect trip to catch a little bit of everything. Angler’s Adventure season offers guests the opportunity to catch four out of the five Pacific Salmon species that the Togiak River has to offer. A typical day usually starts with targeting King Salmon in the morning, and focusing on other species in the afternoon. During this time period the Togiak experiences good numbers of King Salmon and incredible numbers of Sockeye, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon, Dolly Varden and Rainbows. All of these fish can be targeted on conventional gear or fly rods. Both of which are provided by the lodge.
Whether you want to experience the epic battle that King Salmon have to offer, flossing sockeye on a gravel bar or catching 30 Chum Salmon in a row twitching jigs and everything in between, Angler’s Adventure Season has something to offer for you. Slammin Salmon & More!
Peak of Sockeye, Chums, Pink Salmon, Late Kings, Rainbows & Dolly Varden – Ultimate Time for Fly Fishing
Have you ever seen a couple thousand sockeye swim by your feet in a day? The Togiak River has an absolutely incredible run of Sockeye Salmon that return from Bristol Bay. Slammin Salmon and More Season – falls right in the peak of the Sockeye, Chum and Pink Salmon Season. Rainbows and Arctic Char can be found in abundance up the tributaries that dump into the Togiak feeding on eggs from Spawning Salmon. This is the ultimate time for fly and gear fishermen to experience very high volumes of Salmon in river. It’s a target rich environment!
All of these fish can be targeted on fly rods or conventional gear. The three species of Salmon can be targeted effectively with 1/8-3/8 oz twitching jigs, spinners, weighted clousers and streamers. Rainbows and Arctic Char are most interested in soft or hard beads that are free drifted or fished under a indicator.

Variety on the Fly
Fresh Silvers, Rainbows, Voracious Dolly Varden
The freshest Silver Salmon of the season, crazy jet boat rides up small streams, Dolly Varden and Rainbows on the fly rod. What more could you ask for? In our humble opinion if you are looking for small intimate river fishing for Rainbows, Arctic Char, Pink Salmon plus some Alaskan Silver Salmon action, this my friend is the time period to join us.
Silver Salmon can be targeted on twitching jigs, spinners and spoons, weighted clousers and streamers. Pink Salmon are much the same as Silvers when it comes to gear that they can be target with, but typically a little less picky. When targeting Rainbows and Arctic Char soft or hard beads that are free drifted or fished under a indicator are most effective as they imitate single eggs coming from Spawning Chums, Sockeye, Kings and Pinks.

Red Hot Silvers!
The Highlight of the Alaskan Silver Salmon Run
What more needs to be said? If you are looking for the most epic, the most mind boggling and exciting time to target Alaskan Silver Salmon on the Togiak. This.Is.It.
If you are looking to catch pure numbers of these acrobatic chrome bullets and have your shoulder fall out of its socket at the end of the day, this is the time to be here. Now let’s not get to carried away. The earlier August dates are good for Silvers. You’ll catch a lot of fish and go home smiling. But this time frame is when the weird stuff starts happening.
Late August and September is when you get the privilege of seeing these fish stack up in numbers you’ve never seen before. By day four you are so bored of catching them on the “go to gear” you switch over to the things you never thought a Salmon would bite. Top water flies, plug cut Jimmy Dean Sausage, spinner baits for bass, and top water frogs. This is when there are so many Silvers you get to be really creative. You get the chance to see 1,000+ fish in one side channel, staged and waiting to go up river to complete their journey. There could not be a better time to see pure volume of Silver Salmon.

Cast and Blast
Silvers and Waterfowl. The Ultimate Sportsman Trip.
Acrobatic Silver Salmon in Gobbs and unpressured waterfowl? We have found the best of both worlds. Southwest Alaska has a very healthy migration of water fowl in September and October as birds start their journey south to Canada and the lower 48. The Togiak River and its estuary is a untapped waterfowl hunters paradise.
On top of these unpressured birds, are great numbers of Silver Salmon and late season rainbows that can be targeted when not in the duck blind. Silvers can be targeted effectively on spinners, spoons, twitching jigs and many other conventional hardware lures. As well weighted pink/purple clouser minnows and and streamers. Rainbows are fiesting ravenoulsy on flesh from a summers worth of spawning Salmon as well as salmon eggs from the remaining spawning Salmon. Thus, they can be targeted on flesh flies and soft or hard beads that are free drifted with or without an indicator.
